We are a family business with a stable workforce & my belief is simple!
You must be passionate about the work you do and strive to be the best at that job. Whilst working for a customer you should give them a high level of commitment and a quality of product and service rarely matched by others. This leads to a strong business due to customer friendship and the development of future loyal relationships- this is a belief I preach to my children & staff alike.
Our business has been trading since 1986 when I was an enthusiastic but slightly naive & inexperienced person at the age of 23, with no wife in tow or children on board.
Things could not be more different now with 32 years trading behind me, still with a massive passion for the job & the same enthusiasm but with loyal & trustworthy staff & a supportive wife with 6 fantastic children.
My CV would read as follows;
I had been involved in the Glazing / Window & Construction industry from leaving school at 16 when I started work at a ‘Contractors Plant Glazing’ company (Cab-Glas ) where I learnt cutting & glazing of laminated glass into machines such as JCB’s.
I moved on to a ‘Putty Glazing’ Company (C.S.Glaziers) where I learnt glazing before moving into fabrication & installing of aluminum windows within the same company.
I then moved to one of the best companies in Chester at that time ( Alu-Designs) to learn joinery & domestic Installations of timber / aluminium & PVCu windows & doors.
Once mastered I moved into commercial Installations of curtain walling & ground floor treatments in commercial aluminium & PVCu at ( Aluminum Teknek , later Formes Alutek )
In 1986 I felt my experience was good enough to be able to succeed in my own Business incorporating the skills & work ethos I had learned & believed I could offer a better service & quality than the competitors.
I started from home & set about manufacturing from my garage aluminium and hardwood windows and doors, and installing them into homes. Eventually, I moved into business premises & expanded my manufacturing to include commercial systems, adding to this extra building services to complement our domestic Installations.
Business went from strength to strength & we again moved up into 3000 square foot premise complete with PVCu / aluminium & timber manufacturing / glass leaded light studio & completed with a showroom & offices.
During that time we employed 10 members of staff & were involved in a wide range of domestic & large commercial contracts.
In 1997 we were nominated for ‘The Glass & Glazing Awards’ Best Conservatory of the Year for the conservatory we manufactured & installed at Tower College in Rainhill, Merseyside, this was proudly displayed on the front cover of the September issue of Window Fabricator & Installer as well as in other trade magazines & can be viewed on this site in the Photographs section.
During this period we had other projects such as RAF Shawbury & North Wales Medical Center recognized, this led to a larger company (Mike Hart & Formes ) taking a 75% stake/investment into our business & moving us to 6000 square foot premises.
This move was on hindsight too early & proved to be a step to far & after the Investor failed to fulfil his financial & business promises I decided to return to what best suited me and my family and scale down to continue on my own with a reduced workforce
This set back caused me to re-evaluate my business aims & family lifestyle I decided to work with a small sized & strong business built upon quality products & workmanship for clients who are like-minded, although I still work 7 days a week and put work first, I try to balance some time with family.
10 years on & we are trading in a strong position with work coming from existing customers/recommendations, new work being generated mainly by this website.
With extremely good suppliers of high-class products behind us we are happy to pursue this path. We are thus able to closely control the quality of products & workmanship, being very flexible in the work we do whilst being able to cope with jobs large and small. We can consequently maintain a professional but ultimately friendly service that is growing steadily.
We have a skilled workforce & have superb tradesmen in other areas we utilize on building projects. Any jobs we cannot undertake we always endeavour to help and recommend others where possible.
However, I must stress no ‘subcontractors’ are used on our installations & the tradesmen we use on building projects have worked for us for many years and understand the high standards we strive to achieve every day.
Being a small company means we generally have work commitments for between 12-16 weeks. We find our customers don’t mind a fairly small wait as they know that the end result will be worth waiting for & will thus stand the test of time.
We have customers that have dealt with us since we started and we have grown close to them and their families and made some extremely good friends, this is for me one of the most rewarding features of work and one which I hope will continue.
Our customer service is such that even after a customer’s guarantee has ceased we still endeavour to sort out or repair worn items which in turn on the positive creates more work from happy customers.
I am still learning many things in work and life and feel that the experience I have is growing stronger each year. With an amazing and varied customer base to build on and a strong staff and family supporting we can keep improving the business for the gain of everyone-Family, Staff & Customers alike.
